Enable Hibernation in Windows Vista / Windows 7

Hibernation is turned off in Windows Vista / Windows 7 by default. Here are the steps to turn on Hibernation.

Just open up an administrative level command prompt.

This can be done by clicking Start and then type in cmd

Right click cmd that comes below Programs and click "Run as Administrator"


After you get into command prompt type in
powercfg -h ON and hit the Enter key

Then click Start and type in Power Options and press Enter

Click Change Plan Settings of Balanced (Recommended)

Then click Change Advanced Power Settings

Expand Sleep and further Expand Allow Hybrid Sleep and change that setting to Off

Press Apply and click OK

To make Hibernation as the default Power button action:-

Right Click on Start button and click Properties

Click Start Menu tab and change Power Button Action to Hibernate.

Click Apply
